Are You Prepared for a Disaster?

Tiered Storage

Tiered storage is the assignment of different categories of data to different types of storage media in order to reduce total storage cost. Categories may be based on levels of protection needed, performance requirements, frequency of use, and other considerations.  Data is stored according to its intended use. For instance, data intended for restoration in the event of data loss or corruption is stored locally, for fast recovery. Data required to be kept for regulatory purposes is archived to lower cost disks.  The overall concept of tiered storage is to better align data on storage devices with its value or importance to the organization.

Challenges

  • Volumes of data are growing, however adequate storage and retrieval of that data is becoming a serious concern.
  • High-end storage is very expensive, and using top-shelf storage for all data assets is not a cost-efficient solution.
  • Companies are obligated to meet regulatory and legal requirements and account for the data they have, where it is located and who is assessing it; details that cannot be determined by just adding hard drives.
  • IT budgets are shrinking while data is increasing exponentially, causing a need for data reduction technologies to manage capacity growth.

RenovoData Solution

RenovoData offers a comprehensive tiered storage solution that provides offsite data protection, data security, disaster recovery and long-term data archiving capabilities.  These features are essential to meeting today's critical business demands and regulatory requirements.  Tiered storage allows for a more practical and streamlined method of managing data.

  • Higher network utilization, faster   access to data and a greater return on investment.
  • In one process, back up all data that ranges from high-priority and high availability data requirements, down through low-cost, less critical data that still needs to be sent offsite for disaster recovery and/or data archiving.
  • Real-time, "pay as you grow" solution which allows the right type of storage to be purchased at the most appropriate price point that meets the current needs of the business.
  • Application performance is improved by relocating less frequently accessed data to more cost-effective storage.
